Homemade Pizza Dough and Pizza

It is surprisingly easy to make, and it turns out a bit focaccia-like softer base!

Components

  • Homemade pizza dough
  • Pizza sauce and toppings

Directions

  • Make the pizza dough.
  • Preheat the overn to 500˚F.
  • Place parchment paper on a baking sheet (using one with holes at the bottom will result in a crustier bottom).
  • Sprinkle some flour.
  • Roll out the dough or just stretch with oiled hands on the baking sheet.
  • Add pizza sauce and garnish with toppings, bake for 15 min at 500˚C.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5 min before serving.

Homemade pizza dough

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or jaggery
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Steps

  • In a bowl, stir to combine warm water, sugar and yeast.
  • Let mixture sit until the mixture becomes frothy/ bubbly (usually 5-8 min).
  • Can make the dough by hand, but I just use the bread maker to make the dough.
  • To the bread maker, add olive oil, flour, salt, and the yeast mixture. Select the dough maker program.
  • Let the dough rise for 30 mins (or until it doubles in size).
  • Roll out the dough to bake. Can also cover and store in the refrigerator up to 24h or in the freezer if storing for longer.

Pizza sauce and toppings

Ingredients

  • 1 6 oz. can of tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 14 tablespoon crushed red pepper
  • 13 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon thyme

Steps

  • In a bowl, mix all the ingredients.
  • Spread on rolled out pizza dough.
  • For pizza toppings, use your imagination. I often add roasted eggplants, red onions, peppers, ricotta cheese, olives and capers.
