Methi Dal

Ingredients

  • 12 cup chana dal
  • 14 cup toor dal
  • 14 cup moong (yellow) dal
  • 14 cup masoor (pink) dal
  • 16 oz frozen or fresh methi
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper whole
  • 2 teaspoons paanch phoron (bengali 5 spice mix)
  • 1 teaspoon degi mirch or crushed red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon haldi (turmeric)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

Directions

  • Add 1 tablespoon mustard oil in the instant pot and saute the onions until caramelized.
  • Add ginger, paanch phoron, black pepper.
  • Add the dals, and methi, spice powders.
  • Add 12 cups water, and pressure cook for 4-5 minutes.
  • Serve with rice and a side of steamed vegetables.
